My book review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Protection Detail. This is the first book in the Capitol K-9 Unit Continuation Series. I love those series and really look forward to each of the books to come. They are written by six of my favorite authors. Shirlee's books are always well written and of course this one is no exception. I really enjoy reading about the working dogs of the K-9 units; the dogs and their handlers are awesome. This book was well written, full of action, and touched my heart. My son-in-law's family has been in the foster care program for years and I understand the calling and how much it is needed.
Cassie Danvers is the director of a foster home, once a foster child herself, she loves her children as her own. She now has eight children but one wandered out in the middle of the night and witnessed a murder. Cassie awoke by a strange noise in the house. Going downstairs she finds the bolt on the back door is unlocked meaning someone has gone outside. The knob turned although it was locked, maybe one of them was locked out. She opened the door to find a killer. Able to escape she runs off into the woods to lead the man away from her kids.
Capitol K-9 Unit Captain Gavin McCord is investigating the murder on a prominent senator's son when he discovered a child's mitten. After searching the area he finds Cassie in a tree. He takes her back to her home, tells her of the possibility of one of her children witnessing the murder, and she tells him of the man that had tried to kill her. Gavin also a foster child at one time, is determined to protect the kids and their beautiful mother.
And so begins a journey of a struggle to keep these broken kids alive and safe. A great read and one you will not want to miss.
