Destiny Whirlwind by Catherine Ulrich Brakefield

My review today is on the Historical Christian Novel, Destiny Whirlwind. This is the second book in the Destiny Series. I have never read any of Catherine's books before. I was asked to read it and wasn't required to review it but here is my review. This story is well written, well researched, and full of action. It kind of reminds me of a Christian version of Gone With The Wind. Although the book starts in 1898. I'm sure you are going to enjoy it.
Collina McConnells is sixteen years old when her father lies dying. Collina promises that she will care for Shushan, the family plantation. she has several younger siblings but none are old enough to take the responsibility. The tobacco plantation takes a lot of work. Good looking Rough Rider Franklin Long offers to help her until he is called to war. Collina finds herself relying on Franklin more and more. She also finds that her heart is more interested in the man than the work he helps her with. Franklin is called up to go to the war in Cuba. They have one last night and a shared kiss before he is gone.
Franklin writes to the doctor's daughter but not to Collina. What does that mean? She thought they had an understanding. Her childhood friend is with Franklin. Her friend was killed and Franklin is seriously injured. The doctor makes arrangements for him to go to Detroit for rehabilitation.
Collina feels betrayed but the farm and her promise are the most important thing. She struggles on.
This journey continues into the 1900's. There are moments of heartbreak, love and devastation. Their faith is what sees them through. God has a plan for this family; a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.
