My review today is on the Historical novel, A River Too Deep. This is a novel of loss, love, and faithfulness. I have never read any of Sydney's books before. I enjoyed this one very much. I hope to read more of her work. This story is well written, action packed, and full of twists and turns. It's a hard book to put down.
Alcy Callen and her father received word that his long lost step brother was alive, well, and a changed man. They travel to meet Henry and become a part of his life. It isn't long before Henry becomes overly familiar with Alcy making her very uncomfortable. Her father brushes it off saying she is a very beautiful woman. They aren't really related maybe he is interested in courting her. This makes thing even more uncomfortable. She has a captain in the military who is interested in courting her. Her father suddenly becomes ill and dies. He made his step brother her guardian. Henry no longer played the caring uncle; he announced that they are to be married on Saturday. She runs to her room and locks the door. He tells her that he would allow it but tomorrow the lock would be off the door. True to his word the lock is removed and Alcy does the only thing she can; she flees. The captain helps her catch a stage coach to the fort. She is free at least until the stagecoach is attacked.
A terrifying journey for the young woman. She is followed by her uncles men, rescued by a man she thinks is her captain only to find it is a savage Indian. She must learn to trust God in all circumstances.
God has a plan for this young woman, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.
