Christmas at Promise Lodge by Charlotte Hubbard

My review today is on the Amish Romance, Christmas at Promise Lodge. This is the second book in the Promise Lodge Series. I was thrilled to find Charlotte had written the next book in the series as I loved the first one. Promise Lodge left me asking questions about what happens next. This book answered some of those question but I look forward to the next one to find out what happens to the rest of the community. This book is well written, humorous, and will touch your heart. You will love it.

Widow Mattie Schwartz and several others were basically verbally attack at the wedding service by the new bishop Floyd. He told the congregation that all the single and widowed men and women must marry before the first snow fall. He named them and told them he expected them to stand before him saying their wedding vows.  The three Bender sisters and other women couldn't continue to run businesses they must marry and take care of their families.  He also said there would be no interfaith marriages. Mattie wasn't about be forced to marry. She'd endured on abusive marriage and wouldn't have another.

Preacher Amos Troyer was disgusted. A wedding ceremony was not the place to bring up such demands. Now Mattie would never marry him. How could he convince her to share his life after this? What about the other singles in the community? Rosetta Bender and Truman Wickey, a Mennonite, were in love but now they would be unable to marry. Christine Hersberger, a widow, hardly knew Marlin Kurtz how could the bishop expect them to marry. The three sisters had founded the Promise Lodge and were not about to give it over to some man.

A struggle of these two hearts and their community when some man tries to be God in their new district. God has a plan for this new colony and He doesn't care what a bishop has to say. This is a great story and brings to mind the scripture that says 'Judge not lest you be judged.' God has a plan for you too. Give God your heart and let Him turn your mess around.
