My review today is on the Historical Novel, The Return of the King's Ranger. This is one of the books of the Hearts at War Series. A story of the post Revolutionary War. I was sent this book to read, this review is in my own words and thoughts. I'm not sure if I've read any of Angela's work before but I did really enjoy this book. This story is well written, heart warming, and you will love these characters.
Nora Reid is the middle daughter of a farmer. Her father was injured years ago and he relies heavily on her help on the farm. Her two older sisters have married and her younger sister has two men chasing her so will marry soon. Nora has just about given up on romance for herself. Along comes a stranger, it is obvious that he fought in the war. She fakes a fall in the river and a sprained ankle. He gives her a ride to her home. She talks him into staying the night and talks her brother into hiring him. Could he be her happily ever after?
Miles Cunningham returned to the valley to see if he can find out what happened to his family. At sixteen raiders came and burned his family home and took him and his brother to force them into the Continental Army. He had escaped and joined the King's Rangers. It was told to all he had been executed. Miles is filled with hate and bitterness. He tells Nora that his name is Mathew Crawford. He has no plans on staying in the valley but he overhears Nora talking to her sister about his brother. He must find him and find out what has happened to his sister.
A desperate journey of hate, bitterness, and unforgiveness. How can two people from two different sides come together. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. a good plan and not for evil.
