I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. I got to babysit my little two month old granddaughter, Kida so I had a great time. My post today is on the book Hearth in Candlewood, the first book in the Candlewood Triogy. It's a historical novel taken place in the middle 1800's. It was a good story, it was quite humorous in many places. I know you will enjoy this book.
Widow Emma Garrett is the prosperous owner of the Hill House. It is her busy time when the story starts. She doesn't have an empty bed thanks to a freak storm in the middle of the town celebration. Checking all the doors, windows, and lamps, she is finally ready for a snack before bed when there is a knock at her door. When she arrives at the door there is no one there, she goes back to eat her snack when there's a knock at the back door. A soaking wet, little eighty year old widow is standing at her door. "I have run away from my sons," she tells Emma and so the story starts.
Widow Frances Leonard is to live six months with one son and his family and then she goes to the other one's home but now her sons are fighting and she is caught in the middle. Emma hires her to do the mending and some embroidery at Hill House. Her sons are furious. Emma also cares for Reverend Glenn since his stroke. Her mother-in-law also lives with her and does the cooking. The house is busy and there is much to be done.
She goes to her lawyer, Alexander Breckwith hoping to help the widow with her sons, but he explains to her that her home is not really her own. The man who represented the owner of the house took off with her money so after years of living in the house and lots of money invested to bring the home up to Emma's standards she might possible loose her property. He reminds her that he had advised her not to sell her other property and move there. He also advises her to keep a low profile and not to upset the boys in case the owner hears about it. Upset with the man she returns to her home. Will they all be thrown into the street?
It's a cute story. Emma learns the hard way not to rush into things but that each decision should be talked over with God. His plans are for the best. I think we all need to realize this, so often we just decide on things because it is a good price or it is something you really want but God knows what is going to happen down the road. Will there be trouble with a deed or title or is it a lemon that will cost you a fortune in the future?
Trust God to have your best interests in mind. His plan is much more glorious than yours is. God bless you all and try to put trust into your coming week and see what a difference that will make for you.

Shock Wave by Dana Mentink
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense Book, Shock Wave. It's the first book in the Stormswept Series by Dana Mentink. I always enjoy Dana's books, they always have a lot of action and adventure and this one was very hard to put down. I enjoyed the fact that Sage was the one with the PTSD instead of Trey. I do like those names too, they are different. I love how faith was brought into the situation even though one had lost hers, it became very important as things escalated.
Sage Harrington is suffering from PTSD as a result of a mission gone wrong in Afghanistan. A journalist she went to find a story to tell the world but lost a close friend when an attack killed her cameraman. Now she is no longer to even function. Her cousin Barbara asked her to take pictures of an opera house that she and her husband is restoring but Barbara disappears. Derrick her husband says she took off and went to Santa Fe but a woman doesn't take off across country when she is expecting a set of twins at any time. Sage is convinced of foul play, mainly suspecting Derrick. Antonia is hired to paint the lobby. She agrees to meet Sage at the opera house.
Trey Black is an ex-soldier. After the terrible attack in Afghanistan when a news cameraman was killed he got out of the service in an attempt to forget the war. He takes a job to do some maintenance work on an old opera house. An earthquake takes place and he is inside when it occurs. Imagine running into the woman who had plagued his memories.
Together they try to find a way out of the devastation but are forced to go back in to search for Antonia. Convinced that Barbara is in the building they go on a journey to redemption and love. An excellent story, I know you will love it.

Fatal Inheritance by Sandra Orchard
My book review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense Book, Fatal Inheritance by Sandra Orchard. This was an awesome read, I know you will enjoy it. Sandra always writes a great intrigue. It is very well written and I really liked her characters. A journey home to try to find redemption.
Becki Graw returns to the only home she has ever known. Her grandparents had just passed away and she wanted to find the serenity and comfort she had known with them. The farm had been a summer retreat throughout her childhood. Now after loosing herself, she hopes to find some peace. Unfortunately the first thing she finds in her mailbox is a note telling her she doesn't belong here. She is then attacked in the barn, not how she envisioned her arrival. Is it her sister trying to scare her into selling?
Police officer Joshua Rayne is Becki's neighbor. He remembers Becki as a little girl following him like a puppy. He finds Becki after she is attacked and is unconscious. Why would anyone hurt this beautiful girl?
Her sister had turned down his advances, could he get past that? Joshua soon finds out she is no longer the little girl he remembers as they are thrown into an intriguing investigation.
Learning of jewelery heist that points to Becki's grandparents, Joshua and Becki set out to prove their innocence but the real thief has other ideas. A book you won't want to set down. The Rake's Redemption by Regina Scott
My book review today is on the Love Inspired Historical, The Rake's Redemption, the third book in The Everand Legacy, by Regina Scott. I really enjoyed this book, as I've said before I don't read much historical fiction but this was a fun read. It was well written. I liked the characters, they weren't what I was expecting, that always is a plus.
Imogene Devary is in her second season. She had four proposals last season but she has made up her mind she will only marry a man that will be able to entice the king to grant the continuation of her father legacy. This year she thinks she might have found the one. It doesn't hurt that he is a handsome rake, a poet, and an infamous duelist.
Vaughn Everand is out to expose a murder. He is trying to give the man a chance to explain but he refuses to speak with him. On his quest to find the truth of his uncle's death, imagine his surprise when a lady asks him for a dance, a thing ladies don't do. To his further surprise this lady turns out to be the daughter of the man he is seeking. Can he in all good conscience use this beautiful lady to get access to her father? He needs information is it fair to use this innocent lady?
Imogene is convinced it is her mission to redeem Vaughn and at the same time clear her father's name. Vaughn is on a journey to expose the Marquess. Their worlds collide as they find much more than they they bargained for, but God is faithful and redemption is always there for the asking.

Daughter of Joy by Kathleen Morgan
My book review today is on the book Daughter of Joy, it is in the Brides of Culdee Creek Series by Kathleen Morgan. I don't read a lot of historical fiction, although I am reading more than I use to. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were broken and just trying to survive but God had another plan, they helped each other to heal. I liked that concept because that is the best way for a person to heal, to help someone else. The story was very well written and quite humorous as they journey back to the true meaning of life and God's purpose for them. Kathleen did an excellent job.
Abigail Stanton was the daughter of a minister who married her off to a man fifteen years older than she was.
Her husband had a call to build a mission but died before he could complete it. Abby had lived under her father's faith and then her husband's, so when her husband died she had a hard time but after God took her son, her faith was floundering. Her sister-in-law thought she should start the mission but Abby saw no way to do that without money. Answering an ad in the paper, she interviewed for a job as a housekeeper and a teacher. Her sister-in-law told her all about how terrible this man was, a widower, womanizer, and Godless man. The interview didn't go well. He demanded an answer right away so she left but God dealt with her so she ran back told him she would take it.
Conor MacKay is a rancher. He desperately needs a housekeeper and a teacher for his young daughter who had been thrown out of school. His wife had left him over ten years ago, he later found out she had been killed in a fire. He took an Indian woman to help raise his small son finally taking her into his bed. She died leaving him a daughter. He had hired many housekeepers, most just wanted him or his ranch and had done much harm to his young half-breed daughter. His son had ran off last year with all of his savings, forcing him to sell some of his land. As far as Conor it was all God's fault. Drink seemed to be his only comfort. He didn't want this pious, beautiful woman but he had no choice.
He told Abby she could work for him only if she never mentioned God's name in his house and so starts a journey for the three of them. You will laugh and you will cry as they take step after step closer to where God wants to take them. I know you will love this story, I know I will find the next one in the series. Defender For Hire by Shirlee McCoy
My book review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense Book; Defender For Hire. It is one of the Heroes for Hire Series by Shirlee McCoy. I have really enjoyed this series, Shirlee does a great job with intrigues. This one was no exception, it was an awesome read. I have been waiting for Seth Sinclair's story, he has always caught my attention. He has always been a mystery. Big quiet men draw me to them. I love the way their faith is woven into the tapestry of the story. It was well written and a difficult book to put down.
Tessa Camry is a physical therapist. She has moved all over the country running from her past, a mission trip turned into a massacre where her husband, his brother, and a village died. Each year she receives a black rose on the anniversary date of her husband's death. This year something more is going on and she is attacked. How can what happened five years ago put her life in danger now?
Seth Sinclair is an ex-military man. He was wounded in Afghanistan two years ago, his shoulder blown up. He finished a year of therapy but has now reinjured the shoulder. He comes to Tessa for help with the injury only to find a woman in serious trouble. A bodyguard now with Personal Securities Incorporated, he steps in to save the day. Seth is a man seriously hurt and basically running from relationships, even his brothers and their wives. He is drawn to help this beautiful woman even though he is sure she is keeping a secret from him. Can he keep her from running again?
